There are many weapons scattered throughout the world of Illumia. Most weapons will generally fall in either one of these categories:
[Daggers],
[Short Swords],
[Long Swords],
[Staffs],
[Maces],
[Flails],
[Hand to Hand],
[Pole arms],
[Crossbows],
[Bows],
[Firearms] These are just the different categories of weapons that can be found in Illumia, each weapon category might have over 20 different type of weapons (Ex. small dagger, large dagger, poison dagger). Each category has it's own unique features, that is discussed below.
Daggers
In most RPG games, daggers are considered almost useless, they are usually the weakness weapon. In Illumia, daggers play an important role throughout the game, and not just the beginning. Daggers are small, but versatile weapons. The are generally have the quickness attacks, allowing your character to strike multiple times before the enemy has a chance to strike back. Also, lots of daggers have been enchanted with special abilities making them even more effective.
Short Swords
The short swords category is one of the broadest categories. This category consists of blades such as scimitars, sabers, rapiers, etc. Short swords are a mix between daggers and long swords. These blades are a favorite weapon among thieves. They provide good overall damage, and they are relatively quick in attacks. Short swords are also fairly versatile, most characters can use these blades without a problem. Short swords provide a effective alternative to the slower, heavier weapons.
Long Swords
A favorite weapon among warriors, paladins, and knights is the long sword. Wielding a blade of such length requires much skill, this limits the number of users who can use this weapon. Boosting an average length of over 42 inches, long swords can deliver a serious blow to your enemies. Most long swords can be wielded in one hand, allowing a shield on the other. As blacksmiths continue to add to the length of long swords, some long swords have evolved into such heavy weapons that it requires two hands to use effectively.
Staffs
Though staffs are considered weapons, users often use them because of their defensive purposes. Wielded with two hands, a staff can inflict a decent blow to your enemy. A hit from a staff can also knock the wind out of your enemy, causing them to take extra time to catch their breath before they can strike back. Users can also use the light weight staff to block an enemy attack like a shield. Mages are often seen wielding a staff for this reason.
Maces
A crude and simple weapon, it's easy to see how the concept of a mace as a weapon developed. Light weight and easily useable with one hand, the mace is a favorite weapon among the clerics. A strike from a mace will easily knock the wind out of your enemy, causing them to take extra time to catch their breath before they can strike back. This, combine with a quick attack of the mace allows a user to keep their enemies on the defensive during the battle.
Flail
The flail was developed on the concept of the mace. But instead of attaching the bludgeon part on the end of a handle, the flail attaches it to a chain which is then attached to the handle. This allows the users to spin the weapon over their head generating more power on their strike. The slower attack speed of the weapon limits its overall effectiveness over the mace.
Hand to Hand
Going into battle with your fists might be consider a suicide mission to some, but to those who are train in hand to hand combat, it can be very effective form of attack. With hand to hand combat, there is no cumbersome weapon to slow you down. This allows the user to strike very quickly at the enemy. A punch can also knock the wind out of your enemies, allowing you to keep your enemies on the defensive.
Pole arms
Pole arm is a long and lengthy weapon, with a sharp edge attached to the end. These weapons require two hands to use effectively and will do enormous damage to your enemies. The only drawback from using this weapon is it's slow attack speed.
Crossbows
A crossbow will allow a user to send a bolt toward your enemies at incredible speeds. These weapons will inflict large wounds on all your enemies. Unlike to bow, crossbow requires little skill to use, making them favorite weapons of soldiers. Reloading and drawing the string back on the crossbow requires a good amount of time, so users of crossbows often travel with a companion to back them up during reloading.
Bows
A bow allows a user to hit their enemies at long ranges. Unlike a crossbow, a bow can be fired and reloaded very quickly. Using bow requires great skill. An unskilled bowman will find it difficult to hit their enemies with their bow, that's why skilled bowmen were often the prize of any army. Bowmen were known to have laugh at their crossbow counterparts as they try to reload their slow crossbow while being pelted with showers of arrows.
Firearms
The development of gun powder lead to the creation of many new weapons. The first firearms where large cannons, but they soon evolved to be smaller allowing a single man to use. A firearm can shoot through most armor at its time, making armor soldiers virtually defenseless. The projectile from the firearm travels so fast it makes it impossible for any soldier to dodge its attack. Most early firearms where loaded from the muzzle. The gunpowder had to be inserted first, and lead projectile was then pushed into a barrel with it. This process strictly limits the speed a firearm can be fired, thus limiting it's overall effectiveness.
